Two Arrested for Chrysler Airbag Thefts

Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing over 150 airbags from their employer.

BELVIDERE (WIFR) – Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing over 150 airbags from their employer.

24-year-old Carlos Dorado of Poplar Grove and 28-year-old Fernando Rivera have each been charged with one count of felony theft.

Police say they found thousands of dollars’ worth of vehicle airbags after they searched a home in the 4900 block of Pepper Drive in Rockford. The airbags are believed to be stolen from Syncreon in Belvidere, which is a supplier to Chrysler Group and the employer of Dorado and Rivera.

Police say they think the men have stolen over 150 airbags from Syncreon over the past year. Chrysler Group was notified of the possible thefts by U.S. Customs. when it was discovered that the airbags were being sold on eBay.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoina nd more charges are possible.
