Former Drew Peterson lawyer sues current lawyer

CHICAGO (AP) -- One former and one current attorney for Drew Peterson are continuing their public feud over who's to blame for the suburban Chicago police officer's conviction last year of killing his third wife.

Peterson's one-time lead attorney Joel Brodsky has filed a 31-page lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court accusing current attorney Steve Greenberg of defaming him. It also names the Chicago Tribune and AOL's Patch news website. Brodsky and Greenberg began pointing fingers immediately after jurors convicted Peterson of drowning Kathleen Savio in her bathtub.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday says Greenberg circulated a letter accusing Brodsky of "single-handedly" losing Peterson's trial.  Greenberg told the Chicago Sun-Times "truth is a defense" against the allegations.

The Tribune didn't have an immediate comment. And AOL Patch didn't return a message seeking comment.

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Tribune says it'll fight a defamation lawsuit filed against it and others by Drew Peterson's former lead attorney.

The lawsuit filed this week by Joel Brodsky stems from a public feud between him and an attorney still on the suburban Chicago police officer's legal team.

The two have argued for months about blame for Peterson's conviction for killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Brodsky's lawsuit names the attorney, as well as the Tribune and AOL's Patch news website. Brodsky accuses them of disseminating his bitter rival's allegedly falsehoods without adequate fact checking.

In a Thursday statement, Tribune Editor Gerould Kern says the newspaper stands by its reporting. He adds the newspaper, in his words, intends "to defend this suit vigorously."

Patch says it doesn't comment on pending litigation.
