Travel Rally Celebrates Tourism

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – With more travelers expected to flow into the Stateline this year, a local organization is highlighting what all those people mean to local economy.

The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week with a travel rally.

Today is a more of a kickoff celebration to what should be a better year for Rockford as far as bringing in outside travelers.
The RACVB says they expect the numbers of people flowing into the Rockford area to be higher this year as sports tourism continues to grow and considering AirFest is back. It’s events like those the organization says contributed to over $320 million for Winnebago County in 2012 which directly supports over 2,600 local jobs each year.

It’s our way to say thank you for welcoming visitors into our community every day,” said Marketing Manager Bridget French with the RACVB.

The RACB says they haven’t gotten the total number of visitors and the revenue they produced last year as those stats are still being compiled. However, considering the number of events cancelled last year, the group feels this year will be that much better.

The RACVB says national travel generates $2.1 trillion for the American economy.
