TOWN OF BELOIT (WIFR) -- The Town of Beloit and other communities north of the border in the Stateline are preparing for a new conceal and carry law that could allow residents to carry weapons into public places.

In about a month, the Town of Beloit could see some drastic changes.

Philip Taber, Town of Beloit Supervisor, "If a bad guy carrying a weapon knows that you have one, he's going to treat you a little differently."

Not only will people be allowed to carry a gun outside, if approved, by Nov. 1 people will be able to carry a gun inside.

Lynda Graesslin, "As far as people just carrying around guns, I think it's going to be back like in the western days were people are just going to walk around and shot! I'm just not for that."

Some are for conceal and carry, but just concerned with firearms being allowed in public buildings.

Philip Taber, Town of Beloit Supervisor, "Well it gives someone an advantage to take a pop-shot at you and I think you find a lot of irate people who come into our buildings, and you find a lot of people who are irate with what the board has done."

The law lists several facilities where guns will be prohibited including police and fire stations, courthouses, and courtrooms.

Philip Taber, Town of Beloit Supervisor, "I think anybody carrying a weapon is basically going to be a responsible citizen."

The Conceal and Carry Bill signed by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in July prohibited individuals from bringing a firearm within one-thousand feet of school properties.

Under the new law in the Town of Beloit, this mandate has been removed, but firearms will still be banned from school property.

Lynda Graesslin, "Well, it's just the way the world is today. It's getting scarier and scarier."

The town board will hold a public hearing tonight at 7:00 p.m.
