With nine days left until Christmas, many of us still haven't even begun shopping. Today we spoke with a financial adviser about how to best spend our money this holiday season.
George Villa of the Villa Tax Advisory Group said almost 13 percent of all consumers are still paying off credit card debt from last year.
Villa said families are expected to take home less money next year, and it's important to shop smart and look around for good deals. To do that, he said, we have to make a detailed action plan.
“This is the last week before Christmas, and about half the people are just getting started,” said Villa. “Probably one of the biggest things is just like the story of Santa Claus. Make a list, check it twice. Decide what you're going to get. Decide what you're budget's going to be, and then take it with you went you go shopping, and stick to it."
Villa tells us that tomorrow is “National Free Shipping Day,” which means it would be a good idea to start sending out gifts to family members in other parts of the world.
