ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A scary situation as a Rockford teenager is shot after finding burglars inside his home. It was one of three shootings in the city early Sunday morning.
Rockford Police say the 16-year-old and a relative heard strange sounds inside the home in the 700 block of Illinois Avenue. This was around three in the morning. The teenager went to check the noise and found two men who had broken into the home. One of suspects shot the 16-year-old in the hand. He's expected to be okay.
A 27-year-old man is lucky his injuries weren't worse after officers say he was shot in the face. It happened around 1:15am Sunday outside the Aragona Club on Kent Street. Officers were actually just a few feet away when it happened. At the time they were trying to get people from the club to go home. That's when they heard the gunshots. Luckily, that victim is expected to be okay.
About half an hour later around 1:45am Sunday a man told police he was shot in the leg by someone walking down the street while on the city's northwest side. This happened in the 1100 block of North Independence. Officers say the suspect actually fired multiple shots, but only hit the victim once.
