This Year's Home and Garden Show Draws Big Crowds

LOVES PARK (WIFR) -- Stateliners get a chance to prepare for their upcoming home projects at this weekend’s Home and Garden Show. For some people the show means spring is finally here.

"Get rid of the snow and get working in the yard," says garden enthusiast Sue Schumacher. She's excited spring is here because that means it's time to fix up her garden.

“Spring is coming”, said Schumacher. “It's bound to come one of these days and we have to go out and fix up our yards."

At this weekend’s 10th Annual Home and Garden Show in Loves Park about a hundred businesses get a chance to help thousands of people start their spring projects.

"It can be remodeling...it can be landscaping,” said show producer Andrea Costello. “They can answer all their questions...they can see their examples...the pictures they have of their work...different ideas...and get everything in order to plan their projects for the upcoming spring season."

We all know spring brings nice weather, but for the companies at the show the season also means new business.

Jessica Offengwanger was at the show representing her construction company. She says, “Events like this are really helpful for us to get out and meet people in the community and revisit with our previous customers."

"You meet new people,” says Michelle Cox who was working the Image Pro’s booth. “You hope to meet new customers...set up appointments to go to their house and offer the services that we do...hopefully gain so new business for that.”

Tom Wyles builds log houses across the U.S. He said it was nice to see so many vendors at this year’s show despite the rough economy.

"Anytime you have an idea...it's the best time to start a company,” said Wyles, who started his business in 1985. “I think the last five to six years have certainly been the most trying since I been in business."

Many vendors today said they are optimistic about what the spring can do for their business.

The Home and Garden Show wraps up tomorrow at 5pm.
