Texas Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Drug Charges in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY (WIFR) -- Rogaciano Berruete, 58, of Fayetteville, Texas, pled guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, a Class X Felony, and was sentenced to 20 years in the Department of Corrections on March 8, 2013.

On October 16, 2012, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Berreute was stopped on I-90 by Illinois State Police for improper lane usage. During the traffic stop, a K-9 dog, trained to alert on narcotics, alerted on Berruete’s vehicle. A search of Berruete’s vehicle revealed a hidden compartment, in which there were approximately 28 kilos of a substance containing cocaine. Berreute was traveling from Texas to Elgin at the time of his stop.

Berruete’s sentence requires him to serve at least 75% of his sentence.
