CHICAGO (WIFR)-- Starting today, those wishing to fill their tax returns electronically will be able to.
The Illinois Department of Revenue announced today that they would start processing and accepting electronically filed returns. Last year, 80% of taxpayers used electronic filing methods and many received refunds via direct deposit in about a week.
The department believes filing electronically will especially benefit low income working families and senior citizens. By filing electronically, math errors can be caught more easily, and tax preparation programs will help make sure all possible credits and deductions are applied.
An option people can use for filing once tax returns are completed are MyTax Illinois, the online filing system which is free and available to any taxpayer in Illinois. It can be found at tax.illinois.gov.
