ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Just days before the election, local leaders announced their support for District 205's bond referendum.
Today, they are urging residents to vote to give students Better Schools and a Brighter Future.
Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey and Winnebago County Chairman Scott Christiansen announced their support for the referendum, which would allow the district to take out $139 million in bonds to help pay for school building repairs. Christiansen says it takes more than a good curriculum to create a better learning environment.
"We have to create that environment. so we have staff, admin, all that in place, a curriculum we're working very hard on, vocational we're working very hard on now its time to get our physical plant in order," said Christiansen.
Voters within the district can vote on the referendum next Tuesday. There is one community against the facilities plan. We'll tell you which one is telling us to vote no, tonight on the 23 News Update at Ten.
