Superintendent Decision to Come Tonight?

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- We're just a few hours away from knowing who the next Superintendent of Rockford Public Schools will be.

School board members just went into closed session where they'll discuss discipline issues as usual, and possibly choose the next superintendent--either Matt Vosberg or Ehren Jarrett.

The school board interviewed both assistant superintendents on Saturday, but they couldn't make up their minds because they say both men have done such a good job since coming to the district nearly a year and a half ago. Before that, both candidates were principals, Jarrett at Hononegah High School and Vosberg at South Beloit High.

Whomever is chosen will take over for current superintendent Dr. Robert Willis. Willis isn't sticking around, and as he's indicated in the past, pension law could be part of that decision. Since Willis came out of retirement for the interim position, he could lose part of his pension if he were to take over as superintendent full time and then retire again. We'll have the results of tonight's decision on the 23 News Update at 10.

The candidate who is chosen will take over as superintendent on July 1st. In the past, both men agreed to remain through the 2013-2014 school year.
