ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) -- A suburban Chicago middle school teacher has been ordered held in lieu of $1 million on charges he possessed and distributed child pornography.

Sycamore Police Detective Sgt. Rod Swartzendruber said Tuesday authorities executed a search warrant Monday at Jerome B. McCauley's Sycamore home. The 45-year-old is a teacher at Wredling Middle School in the western suburb of St. Charles. He has been placed on administrative leave.

Swartzendruber says investigators were led to McCauley when they discovered an Internet Protocol address linked to a file sharing network for child pornography.

School officials do not believe current or former Wredling students were involved in the pornography.

It was not clear if McCauley has a lawyer. No phone listing could be found for McCauley and he could not be reached for comment
