FREEPORT (WIFR) – As spring starts to creep closer, so does prom season and a Freeport High School is honoring a tradition.
Juniors and seniors draw names at Aquin Catholic School to find out who their prom dates are. The girls wait in the cafeteria as the boys figure out in the library how to ask their dates to prom. Typically, these can get creative including dressing up in costume.
“I think it’s fun. I think tradition’s the best part of it because it’s Aquin. It’s got a long history,” said junior Michael Osadjan.
The tradition began in the 1920’s when a nearby orphanage started attending Aquin. The School wanted to make sure everyone was included in prom, not just the popular kids.
