Student Arrested at East High School

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- On Thursday, November 1, 2012 just after 1:30 p.m., East High School staff received an anonymous complaint that a student possessed a handgun and that the student was currently inside the building.

Staff immediately notified school administrators and the Rockford Police School Resource Officer. The School Resource Officer and school staff located the student in a classroom and the student was detained. A handgun was located in the student’s backpack, which he had in his possession.

The student is identified as a 16-year-old male student of East of High School. The student was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons and Unlawful Possession or Storage of a Weapon on School Grounds. The student was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center and will be referred to the Juvenile Court.
