Strong Storms Knock Out Power and Down Trees in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A number of people on Rockford’s east side woke up to quite the mess Sunday morning after Saturday night's storms ripped through the area.

Many people who live near Alpine and Highcrest were without power throughout the day. More than 7,000 households in Winnebago and Boone counties lost power.

Large branches were even knocked off of trees leaving a lot of cleanup work.

"The power came back on and I looked out the front door and I couldn't believe my eyes. The tree had split right in two. I was in shock and then I was really happy that it didn't fall on the house or hurt anyone," Elizabeth Peppers said.

ComEd says they had crews out nonstop working to fix the problem. Power has been restored to everyone.
