BELOIT (WIFR) -- Beloit neighbors gather for the second time over the weekend to urge community members to work with one another to prevent any more violence in their city.
There have been more murders in Beloit so far in 2014 than all of 2013. That prompted some neighbors to put together this stop the violence rally. Families gathered at Riverside Park. Kids could check out the Beloit Fire Department's tactical truck and meet the fire crews. Parents had the chance to meet people who were otherwise strangers and say this was a good opportunity to learn from one another's differences.
“I have four sons myself and a lot of these victims were young black males and I have four young black males and so it’s really near and dear to my heart to cease the violence,” says Markia Richardson. “I don’t know what I would do if something like that happened to my child, and my heart and prayers go out to all of those families."
Organizers think around 200 people made it out for this afternoon's rally.
