DIXON (WIFR) -- The city of Dixon hopes to install a new statue to honor one of its most famous residents, our country’s 40th President, Ronald Reagan.
Dixon Mayor Jim Burke is working with the city's tourism bureau to create a seven foot bronze statue of Reagan. It’s being modeled after a photo snapped of Reagan during his time as a lifeguard at Lowell Park. The $120,000 piece would overlook the beach site where Reagan was a lifeguard for seven summers.
“We have a Reagan statue on the riverfront and that has been a big draw. We look at the tourism book and what brought people to Dixon was the statue so people are interested in the statue and this will be a first class job," says Mayor Jim Burke.
He adds, if the tourism bureau agrees to help raise the funds, this statue would get very special treatment. It would be designed and constructed by a firm that has casted sculptures of Michael Jordan and Harry Carey. The structure would take around a year to make.
