ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The ailing economy is motivating some to join the medical field; a field with an increasing demand for new nurses following the Affordable Care Act.
Dozens of potential nursing students toured the St. Anthony College of Nursing on East State Street. Potential students say, although they want to work in the medical field, it can be hard to afford their education. The college offers financial aid, something more people need during these hard times. Professors at the school say there is always a need of qualified nurses, and it can be a very rewarding field.
“Nursing is great if you want to serve people. We are a very mission based school but also it's a good career not just because it's rewarding but because it pays very well,” says Dr. Terri Burch, President of the St. Anthony College of Nursing.
The school typically admits 50 students in the spring and fall.
