ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- There's was absolutely no calorie counting at a Stateline bar tonight as more than a dozen men took on a major food challenge.
Fifteen men all tried their hand at finishing a massive three pound burger covered in eight slices of cheese, twelve strips of bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and a pound of fries. It was all a part of Murphy's Pub & Grills’ Big Burger Challenge.
"The closest anyone has ever gotten was within fifteen minutes of the time limit still having a quarter of the burger left," said bar night manager Jasmin Bilich.
Contestants had an hour to gobble up the grub. Tonight's winner took his last bite in record time.
"This guy did it in ten minutes," said Bilich. "I've never seen that happen."
"Just don't think," said tonight's winner Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti. "If you thought about it you would never do such a thing."
Turns out Bertoletti is a professional competitive eater. Bertoletti walked away with first prize which was 500 dollars in cold hard cash.
Those that didn't finish the mammoth burgers had to pay for the meal which was 40 dollars. The restaurant plans on holding the competition again this summer.
