FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Hundreds of people looking for a better future and maybe a new career packed into the Student Conference Center at Highland Community College.
This year's career fair is the first since 2008 to have more than 40 companies participate.
The school says they're anticipating roughly 600 visitors to the fair.
Many of those visitors are people who were recently employed in the Freeport area but have fallen on hard times.
Shelley Moll worked at a company in Freeport for 30 years until she was laid-off this February. She says now she has to start at square one.
"It's frightening," said Moll, "...because you don't know what to expect."
Moll hopes she can find a new job soon.
The job fair continues tomorrow at the college from 9am to 1pm.
