ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Illinois State Troopers team up with Rockford Police to make sure drivers are safe on the roads by pulling over any drunk drivers they run into this Father’s Day weekend.
Troopers say getting extra manpower from the city or county means more drivers can be stopped in case they are breaking the law. The State Police in Winnebago County and Ogle County plan roadside checks over Father’s Day Weekend. It’s not a time people would exacted to see extra patrols but troopers say they want people to know they’re out there before bigger holidays later in the summer.
“The 4th of July is coming up, that’s one of our busiest weekends out there and that’s one of the busiest weekends for families and parties, and we hope that they’ll serve as a reminder and deterrent to motorists not to abuse alcohol," says Master Sergeant Mark Nytko of Distinct 16.
The Illinois State Police also plan to step up their roving patrols that will move around Winnebago county checking for drunk drivers and people not wearing seat belts.
