ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rockford may see some competition as plans for another Northern Illinois Airport are starting up again.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is hosting a forum next month for industry experts to develop an airport south of Chicago near Peotone.
Some air carriers and private developers are expected to go. Last month, the state bought $34 million worth of land outside Peotone for the future airport it wants to build.
“The longest journey begins with the first. We just unveiled the name of the airport. We’re going to have a meeting next month where we bring in developers to do exactly what you’re saying,” said Governor Pat Quinn.
We reached out to RFD’s executive director Mike Dunn about the proposal for another area airport, but he was unavailable today.
