ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It'll be a short summer next year for students at Saint Edward Catholic School in Rockford. Administrators added fifteen more days to their school year in order to improve academic achievement.
It's a plan to make sure students K-8 master their basic reading and math skills.
The new calendar year will take effect August 21st. Administrators say some parents aren't happy, because tuition will increase by nearly $250. Sarah Wells says she knows more time in the classroom is what is best for her daughter.
"The tuition isn't a concern for us, the only hesitation I had would've been losing their attention, especially since my daughters are very young, but they kind of spice it up a little bit for them and give them different activities so I really think it'll be a benefit,” said parent Sarah Well.
Right now, tuition is nearly $3,000. Classes will end June 25th. We're told the school will also offer optional summer sessions.
