SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The state's education board is accepting applications from Illinois high school students who want to serve on its student advisory council.
The Illinois State Board of Education announced the open positions on Wednesday. The student advisory council meets to share ways to improve the state's schools.
Thomas Rice is a senior at Dundee Crown High School in Sleepy Hollow who serves on the council. He says working on the council gives students a chance to change the education system and gain new perspectives.
The council was established in 1975 and includes a diverse group of students. Students that will be sophomores, juniors, or seniors next fall are eligible to apply. The deadline to submit an application is May 30.
