ROCKFORD (WIFR) — Nick Tumilowicz, son of Rockford resident Kris Tumilowicz, more well-known as Dr. T of Dental Dimensions, was featured in an article in the May 2013 issue of Readers Digest magazine for his heroics in rescuing two boys from a rowboat.
The incident happened in the San Francisco Bay. Two 12-year-old boys in a rowboat got caught in a current and started to get pulled out to sea. Nick was quick to help, jumping in the frigid water and swimming more than 500 yards to the boat. Once he was aboard, he realized the only way to get back to safety was for them to get in the water. So, the three got in the water and Nick pulled them to the nearest pier.
Dr. Tumilowicz remarked “Being an Eagle Scout and getting his Life Saving Merit Badge surely made the difference”. Dr. T and his sons Mike and Nick were all in The Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. The Boy Scout Council of San Francisco and The Blackhawk Area Council have prepared Certificates of Commendation for Nick’s heroic efforts.
