SAUK VALLEY (WIFR) -- Five area organizations are teaming up to bring a series of educational opportunities to small businesses throughout the Sauk Valley. Sterling and Dixon Main Streets have joined forces with the Sauk Valley Area, Rock Falls and Dixon Chambers of Commerce to create “Small Business Bootcamp.” The first, of what is planned to be a series of events, will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Sauk Valley Community College. Representatives from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois Department of Revenue and Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (regarding the Affordable Health Care Act) will be on hand for this “Ask the Expert” event, featuring a brief presentation from each organization followed by round table discussions where area small business owners will have the opportunity to ask specific questions as it relates to their business.
“Small business owners often do not have ready access to attorneys or other professionals the way a larger corporation may,” says Janna Groharing, Executive Director of Sterling Main Street. “Whether a business has just 1 or 100 employees there are a wide variety of issues of which a small business owner should be aware, and we want to help bring that information to them.” Josh Albrecht, Executive Director of Dixon Main Street continued, “Our organizations wanted to collaborate and share resources to benefit our local businesses. We hope this is the first of many events.”
The event begins at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, followed by the presentations, with the round table discussions beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m. Advance registration is required, with a $5.00 fee. Registration forms are available from any of the 5 partnering organizations.
