Sidewalks to Be Poured Along E. State St. Near Hotels, But Not This Year

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A second accident in less than a year involving international visitors being hit by cars on their way to Rockford’s east side hotels prompts the question, “What's being done to improve pedestrian safety on East State Street?”

Winnebago County and the City of Rockford are working together to improve the intersection at Bell School and State Street.

The nearly $6 million project includes the addition of a path for pedestrians. Rockford's Public Works Director says the hotels in this area are responsible for adding their own sidewalks.

Police say the man hit Saturday while crossing the street is still in critical condition. He was visiting Rockford from the United Kingdom.
