Sheley Trial: Neighbors heard scream as 4 killed

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) -- Three people occupying apartments adjacent to one where four Rock Falls residents were killed in June 2008 say they heard thuds the night of the deaths.

Chastity Gibbons and Matthew Johnson testified Tuesday in the trial of 34-year-old Nicholas Sheley of Sterling. He has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of 29-year-old Brock Branson; 20-year-old Kilynna Blake; her 2-year-old son, Dayan; and 25-year-old Kenneth Ulve.

The Rock Island Argus reports Gibbons said she heard a thud and Blake saying "Oh God, don't." Gibbons tried to text her, but got no response.

Johnson said he heard a scream followed by loud thuds.

Nancy Andrews, who lived below the murder scene, testified after the thuds she heard a scraping chair on a rear porch and the flick of a lighter.
