Sensata Workers Walk Off the Job

FREEPORT (WIFR) -- It's been quite a week for Sensata workers in Freeport. Several employees walked off the job Thursday night and there's a chance they won't be asked back.

Sensata workers decided to walk out once they were told in a memo from Sensata management, to stay home if they feel uncomfortable in their current working environment.

Five employees were cheered on as they marched out of the Sensata plant during their night shift. According to the memo, Sensata management wants to make sure there is a safe working environment.

Management says any worker who decides not to come to work will still get paid and receive benefits. But Bonnie Borman says walking out is bittersweet.

"There's a lot of people that I’m probably never going to see again. And I didn't really get the chance to you know say the proper goodbyes," said Borman.

Other employees called to say they weren't coming in to work. Sensata management will notify them at least 24 hours in advance of when they can return. The Sensata plant is still scheduled to close at the end of the year.
