ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Illinois Senator Mark Kirk tours UTC Aerospace in Rockford and discusses why he believes Congress needs to re-authorize the Export-Import Bank of the US.
Kirk says the re-authorization would help keep Rockford and America in the forefront of the industry. Kirk is one of several US senators pushing for the re-authorization by the end of September. The federal bank provides loans to companies to assist them in marketing their products to worldwide customers. UTC Aerospace has not used the bank as a resource but it does sell many components to Boeing, which has used the bank. Kirk says Boeing faces stiff competition from overseas airplane makers in the coming years and continuing the bank would help Boeing, and UTC keep pace with the competition.
“I was even thinking of suggesting to Mayor Morrissey that we put an aircraft into the symbol of Rockford so we always know we are an aerospace leader and giant with tremendous income and opportunities ahead of us,” says Senator Mark Kirk (R)-IL.
Kirk took the tour at UTC alongside Fred P. Hochberg, Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank.
