ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Despite the controversy over Obamacare, otherwise known as the Affordable Care Act, is set to begin in just three days, and a lot of us still have questions. So today we had the chance to get them answered during a special forum.
Williams Manny, a local insurance company, is providing consumers with information about the Affordable Care Act by hosting a seminar. Dozens of people showed up to both learn more about how they'll be affected by the change and get their questions answered. The biggest question of the day, how much will it cost. Unfortunately there's no answer to that yet because premiums haven't been set. One of the biggest misconceptions people had today at the seminar about the ACA is that it's free.
"In addition to the fact that you are going to have to pay some kind of premium for individual coverage depending upon your income, if you don't have coverage there's conversely there will be a penalty at the end of the year so I think that was information that a lot of people didn't fully understand," Tracey Fults, who hosted the seminar, said.
October first is the first day people without insurance can sign up for the Affordable Care Act. They have until January to get signed up.
