ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Belvidere man has now also been charged in connection to a hit-and-run accident that killed two Chinese men.
This morning a grand jury indicted 22-year-old Tyler McCullough with two counts of failure to report an accident involving death after leaving the scene.
Two men out of four walking were hit late December 16 in the 7600 block of East State Street. They were walking from the Clock Tower Resort to the Red Roof Inn when they were hit by the SUV McCullough was driving.
27-year-old Weixue Lin died that night. 36-year-old Zhang Xin died weeks later on January 3. The men were in the area to start working at UTC Aerospace.
Police searched for the suspect GMC Jimmy, which led them to charge the owner of the vehicle, 50-year-old Dean McCullough of Belvidere, with failure to report an accident, no insurance and obstructing justice a few days later.
Tyler McCullough remains in Winnebago County Jail on $1 million bond. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
