ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Former school board member Alice Saudargas continues her fight to win back her old seat in Sub-District C, and now she's got help from another school board hopeful.
Saudargus has joined forces with Sub-District F candidate, Juan Reyes, to convince an electoral panel to re-hear her case. The 96-year-old was tossed off the ballot in January after that panel ruled she didn't have the 50 signatures needed to run for office. Saudargus says she was in the hospital when the decision was made and that wasn't fair. She argues her work on the school board isn’t over.
A representative from the campaign on Ken Scrivano, Saudargus’ opponent, says the issue over signatures has been settled and it’s time for the board to look to the future, not the past.
Saudargus has filed paper work so there is a line on the ballot for her to run as a write in candidate. Sub-District C covers parts of the west side of the Rock River, including West Middle School and Walker and Welsh Elementary Schools.
