ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Lutheran students helped the Salvation Army take a big step towards finishing their can-struction project this afternoon.
Organizers led a food train throughout the community to pick up donations. The goal was to collect more than 2,000 cans of food which will be used to create an American flag in Cherryvale’s center court next week. Cans will then be donated to families who need them.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A good deed is being turned into art. The Salvation Army wants to build an American Flag out of canned food. They need our help. They’re collecting cans with labels that are the colors of the flag, plus yellow and green. Once the donations are in, local architects and students will get building on the can-struction in a few weeks.
"It's a creative way to say that you can make a difference. The food that is given to the Can-Struction project will then go to the Salvation Army food pantry which we operate year round,” said Beverly Peterson with the Salvation Army.
You can drop off your donation at CherryVale Mall through May 7th.
