ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) -- The Rock County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 2237 E Huebbe Parkway in Turtle Township for a family disturbance. The reporting person told dispatch that a 53 year old man was “freaking out”.
When deputies arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with the man. He refused to answer the phone or come to the door. Deputies could hear the subject inside yelling and breaking items. Family members had left the house prior to the deputies’ arrival. Deputies reported seeing the subject throwing items out the front window. Deputies learned the subject was threatening to harm himself and that he may have access to a handgun. The man was not armed the last time he was observed by the family. The subject was heard yelling that he was not coming out of the house.
After approximately one hour of unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the subject, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was activated. Once SWAT arrived on scene and deployed, SWAT negotiators made numerous attempts to contact the subject. After more than an hour of attempted communication, the man finally began to talk with SWAT officers and negotiators, but continued to refuse to come out. Over the next hour and a half, negotiators and SWAT deputies were communicating on and off with the subject.
At 5:00AM, SWAT deputies observed the subject, unarmed and in the sunroom of the house. SWAT deputies breached the sunroom door and took the man into custody before he could re-enter the house. He had a minor cut to his hand which was attended to on-scene by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team doctor. The man was transported by deputies to the Beloit Memorial hospital for evaluation.
This case is still under investigation. No criminal arrests have been made at this time.
