Rockord Mayoral Candidates Create Custom Lipstick Shades To Encourage Engagement

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Color Lab Cosmetics in Rockford is helping you “Color Your Vote” this election season.

On sale now at the company’s Rockford store are three custom lipstick colors created by the three men running for Rockford mayor. You can pick up the shade made by your candidate for $20 and $5 will go towards their favorite charity. Mayor Morrissey’s color is “Sheer Sizzle”, with proceeds going to Alignment Rockford. If you purchase Democrat Jim Hughes' “Youthful”, you'll help support YouthBuild. Rosecrance will benefit if you pick up Republican Michael Kleen's color “Rockford Rose”. The candidates say this is a fun, unique way to engage the voters

“Lipstick is not the ideal way to ultimately make a decision but it's a great way to get people excited hopefully about the campaigns," says Independent Larry Morrissey.

"It's a wonderful idea and we're greatly appreciative for them," says Democrat Jim Hughes.

“We talk about a lot of serious issues all the time in the mayoral race so it's good to do fun things like that," says Republican Michael Kleen.

The colors aren't too wild and crazy; that's because the candidates got help from their wives and female staffers to create something any woman may want to wear on Election Day or any day. Color Lab Cosmetics did a similar campaign during the 2008 presidential election but this is the first time the company got involved for a local race. The colors will be on sale up until Election Day on April 9th.
