Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is asking lawmakers to spend the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday volunteering and today a local organization is giving away more than just their time.
Three scholarships were handed out this morning to local high school students. The teens attended this year’s MLK breakfast at Rockford College. The purpose of the event is to recognize outstanding African-American males for their academic achievements. The fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha has been encouraging higher education for the last eight years.
Today's recipients are from Freeport and Auburn High School.
