ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rockford City Alderman and Winnebago County Board members are putting their heads together to discuss the solution to common problems.
If you live in Rockford, you live in Winnebago County, and those jurisdictions share a lot in common, for better and for worse. Leaders think they can find more efficient ways to handle things like crime as well as economic development.
That’s why the group of 34 is meeting tonight. The group wants to begin the process of finding more efficient ways to deal with problems that face both groups, including public safety and infrastructure. Members we spoke with say they hope to create smaller groups that can focus on individual issues. The hope is these meetings occur regularly perhaps once every three months.
The group of 34 is made up of at least a dozen new faces, many have never met one another before, so this gives them all an opportunity to sit down face-to-face and discuss common concerns and issues.
The meeting is open to the public, but there won’t be any public comments allowed. You can stop into memorial hall to hear what your representatives have to say. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. tonight.
