ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- An exciting day at the Rockford YMCA, after the organization opens the doors to the new Youth Interactive Center.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held this afternoon at the Y. What use to be old offices and conference rooms, now is the Exploritorium. The center has something for all kids including; a work out room, science space for experiments and even a music recording studio.
Mike Brown, Rockford YMCA CEO & President says the new center is part of a $20 million capital campaign to renovate the Rockford facility
"It's about changing the way we do things and we need dollars to do that. And when I say the way we do things is the fact that we are building nice prisons and jails and were not investing in some of our younger kids. So this is an opportunity for us to say capital improvements, mean people improvements," Brown said.
The Exploritorium will host weekly themes so kids will be able to experience something new all the time.
