ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- The founder of the Rockford tea party says he's running against U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger in the Republican primary for the 16th Congressional District.

David Hale made the announcement Tuesday. He founded the Rockford tea party in 2009. The Daily Gazette reports the 50-year-old Hale is U.S. Army veteran and a former emergency room nurse who now works as a nurse informatist.

Kinzinger's spokesman declined to comment.
