ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rockford Scanner’s Facebook page is back up and running tonight after a more than 12 hour absence. The sites founder, Rickie Traeger, says he needs to make some major changes over the next few weeks to make the venture more profitable. We know there’s been a lot of rumors that the Rockford Police Department had something to do with it since the Police Chief met with Traeger Tuesday afternoon. Today police issued this statement:

"In response to Rockford Scanner’s business decision to stop posting information we want to set the record straight.
Chief Epperson requested a meeting with Rckie Traeger to talk about guidelines on the posts made on his website. We explained that the unconfirmed posts were causing a burden on staff who had to respond to inquires by the main stream media, the public and elected or appointed officials. We advised Mr. Traeger that he is considered a legitimate meida source and his site is a valuable asset to the community. At no time did Chief Epperson or any of his staff tell Mr. Traeger what he should or should not post.

The Rockford Police Department has no authority over Rockford Scanner or any other media or internet website and cannot control what is stated or posted.

Below are two emails that Mr. Traeger sent to the Rockford Police after the meeting and in response to the rumour that the Rockford Police “shut-down” Rockford Scanner.

Hi,

I first want to thank you and the the chief, for taking the time and talking with me. Much appreciated.

I have made the personal decision to make Rockford Scanner a scanner site, and nothing for any type of news related info.
I need to make money, and Rockford Scanner is failing to meet my needs in the financial area.

It has provided an excellent service to the community over the years.

I appreciate the help and support you and your department has given Rockford Scanner over the years, and it has been a pleasure to work with you and the departments.

I am still going to keep the "report a crime tip" section on the website, so people have the option to do so. And I will keep forwarding the tips to you when I receive them.
When you get the blotter up and running, let me know. If you like, I will promote it for you guys.

Hi,

Theres a rumor going around, saying you guys (Rockford Police) shut down Rockford Scanner.

I want you to know, that I had nothing to do with that rumor.

I have clearly stated; That I have made the personal decision to make Rockford Scanner a scanner site, and nothing for any type of news related info.
I need to make money, and Rockford Scanner is failing to meet my needs in the financial area.
This is a temporary thing, until I find some type of finance to cover my overhead costs.

I am also reorganizing and restructuring Rockford Scanner during this downtime, until I find the finances.

ALOT of people are upset, and want Rockford Scanner back. And rumors been flying all night on the internet.

I wanted to make you aware that I have nothing to do with those rumors.

Feel free to email me anytime.
Rickie
