UPDATE: Rockford Man Sentenced to 20 Years

UPDATE: 21-year-old James Taylor has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for being an armed habitual criminal and 14 years in prison for aggravated discharge of a firearm. The sentences will run concurrently. Taylor must serve 85% of his sentence.

Taylor was convicted of robbing the Mosey's Grocery and Liquor on West State Street in March of 2013 and plead guilty to being an armed habitual criminal last month.

Police say Taylor and another masked man went into the business, pointed the gun at the employee and started shooting. The worker grabbed a gun and fired back hitting Taylor.


ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- One of the men who police say robbed a local convenience store at gun point and shot at the clerk, says he's guilty.

James Taylor, 21, plead guilty to being an armed habitual criminal and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He's already been convicted of robbing the Mosey's Grocery and Liquor on West State Street back in March of 2013.

Police say Taylor and another masked man went into the business, pointed the gun at the employee and started shooting. The worker grabbed a gun and fired back hitting Taylor. Taylor faces up to 60 years in prison. Sentencing is set for December 19.
