The city of Rockford has a few road closures coming up within the next few weeks:
- Construction for the roundabout planned at the North Main Street and Auburn Street intersection will begin the week of April 15.
Other additions planned for that intersection besides conversion to a roundabout include lighting improvements, water main improvements, installation of new sidewalk and landscaping. The project is estimated to be completed by October 15.
Also starting April 8, the Winnebago Bridge will be closed for two weeks for repairs. Improvements include neoprene expansion joint removal, partial incidental deck slab repair and a protective coat. A detour is planned.
On Tuesday, lane closures will take place between Kilburn Avenue and Avon Street until Thursday. Mulberry Street will be open to traffic.
This is a part of the Sunset Avenue to Kent Creek Water and Sewer Main Reroute Project. Some improvements include abandoning and replacing water mains, valves and sewers. According to a press release, these changes are necessary to take care of potential conflicts with the Illinois Department of Transportation's West State Street roadway reconstruction plans.
Water main and sewer installation is already taking place east of Avon Street and at the intersection of West State Street and Lakin Terrace.
On IL Route 2, from Beltline Road to 0.4 miles north of Harrison Avenue, another Illinois Department of Transportation project is progressing. Changes consist of widening and resurfacing, adding lanes and a barrier median and adding a bike path, along with several other improvements. The project is planned to be completed later this year.
