ROCKFORD (WIFR) – There are many home owners who aren’t happy about the new Meijer store along Perryville Road. Residents had a chance to voice their concerns over how close the store will be to their property.
Rockford’s Zoning Board of Appeals approved changing the requirements on what kind of businesses can be built on the property Meijer is looking to move to by a 6-0 vote bringing the number of hurdles the superstore faces before they can move forward with their plans to two. They’re proposing to build the superstore on what will be called the Perryville Promenade on Perryville and Rote Roads on Rockford’s east side. The Meijer is also proposing to build a gas station next to the main building.
Residents in the neighborhood that would be directly behind the store’s proposed location say they are worried about noise, light pollution, and people walking through their neighborhoods. The store says they’ll build a berm between them and the homes, but some home owners say it’s not enough.
Home owners are also concerned about the Meijer gas station being built because the property right on the corner of Perryville and Rote already has been approved for a separate gas station.
Meijer representatives said they want home owners to know they plan to be good neighbors if they indeed do build on that location.
