ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Some local schools are trying to get people from the community to help local kids read.
Rockford Public Schools are looking to boost its reading program with more volunteers. The Literacy Development Project gives second graders one-on-one time with adults to listen and read aloud. Over the past 12 years, the program has helped over 2,000 kids.
“A lot of kids don’t have parents, they’re working, they don’t have time to sit down one on one with their child and listen to them read for 20 minutes so it’s really wonderful, it’s priceless,” said Marsha Sisney with Rockford Public Schools.
