Rockford Reads

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Public Schools are looking for volunteers to help boost reading skills among second graders.

Volunteers would spend one-on-one reading time with an elementary student for about an hour a week. The goal is to boost exposure to some of the language used in children's books. Since the program began 11 years ago and 2,000 kids have taken part.

The Volunteer Process for Rockford Reads is:

1. Contact Marsha Sisney, Parent & Community Empowerment Supervisor, Rockford Public School District 205, (815) 966-3271 or send an email to sisneym@rps205.com.

2. The required volunteer information and background check forms will be mailed to you. Simply fill out the forms and return them to the Parent and Community Empowerment Department, 501 7th Street Rockford, IL. 611014.

3. You will then be contaceted with an assignment and a starting date. Volunteers and students will READ together as scheduled from January 14th through the end of May 2012.
