Rockford Police Overtime Numbers Could Be Higher in 2013

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police officers may get paid more in overtime than they did last year according to chief Chet Epperson.

The overtime number may increase this year because of a number of reasons, one of which being the high violent crime rate and number of homicides in Rockford this year. The chief says a lot those violent crimes took place during weekends when detectives are usually off forcing his department to call in those resources to work on cases.

Epperson says his department made the decision collectively this year to avoid ruing opportunities to solves crimes because of people being off for the weekend and just call them in to work, paying the overtime.

This year's overtime budget for the Rockford Police could exceed 3-million dollars.
