UPDATE: Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Illinois Department of Corrections

UPDATE (WIFR) -- The Winnebago State's Attorney has announced that 30-year-old Zacarie Brown was sentenced May 2nd to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony).

On September 27, 2012, RCPD Officers responded to the 1500 block of Birch Court regarding armed subjects in the area.

Officers saw an individual, later identified as Brown, conceal a pearl handled firearm in his waistband. Brown then ran away from officers and into a home in the area. The residence was secured and the victim complained that Brown had barged into her home without permission. Officers located the pearl handled revolver hidden under a mattress in the upper level of the residence.

Brown does not possess, nor is he eligible for a Firearm Owner's ID Card. The recovered firearm was loaded at the time it was recovered.

Armed Habitual Criminal is also a Class X Felony with a sentencing range of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Brown must serve 85% of the sentence on this charge.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- In the evening hours on Thursday, Rockford Police made three significant weapons related arrests including two stemming from problems which began at a single location.

At about 7 p.m., while responding to a man with a gun call, a Rockford Detective spotted the man in the Blackhawk Courts Housing Development. The man fled on foot and ran into an occupied residence in the 1500 block of Birch Court.

The occupant of the residence ran out and told the officers that an unknown subject had ran into the house. Officers located the suspect and a handgun inside the home. Officers arrested Zacarie Brown, a 29 year old Rockford man, for Armed Violence, Residential Burglary, Obstructing Justice, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, Battery, Resisting Arrest, and No FOID.

At about 11p.m., Officers were flagged down in the parking lot of a bar at 3500 Auburn Street for a report of a man with a gun. As the officers approached, the suspect discarded the firearm, but then struggled with officers during his arrest.

Officers recovered a handgun and arrested Harold McKay, a 51 year old Rockford man, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, No FOID, and Resisting Arrest.

At about 11:05 p.m., the officers at 3500 Auburn Street were alerted to another man with a gun leaving the parking lot in a vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle at 800 Hoban Street and a passenger fled.

They pursued the passenger on foot and arrested him after a struggle. Officers recovered a handgun the suspect discarded during the struggle. LaMark Foots, a 42 year old Rockford man, was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and No FOID.
