Rockford Police Investigate Car Chase, Man Shot Near Local School

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police are investigating three cases of shots fired on Sunday that all happened within about a half an hour.

Around 2pm Sunday, police say shots were fired at the Blackhawk Housing Complex at 15th Street and Birch. Officers say no one was hurt, but they did find shell casings near an SUV.

A short time later, around 2:30pm, a man showed up at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim told investigators he met with two people at Nashold Elementary School to buy some electronics, then got into a fight with the men and was shot. Police say the victim will survive.

A car chase led to shots over by the Kmart near Sandy Hollow and 11th Street. Police say one car was chasing another when people inside the cars started shooting. Shell casings were found in the area but there are no signs of anything being hit.

Although all three incidents happened within minutes of each other, officers don't believe there's a connection between any of them.
