Rockford Plows Spend Saturday Salting Residential Streets

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- There's a lot of salt down on our city streets as crews spent the last 24 hours treating the roads to melt away some of the ice.

Saturday crews focused on salting residential streets. Some trucks even had to drive backwards to salt icy hills.

Most of the main roads are clear, but despite salting the same residential streets several times some are still dangerous to drive on.

A garbage truck got stuck after sliding into a ditch early this morning on Liberty Boulevard in Machesney Park. It took about 5 hours to get it free.
